The CPAP is better than nothing. It can help prevent future related health problems, such as heart trouble and highblood blood pressure. For my sleep apnea, it varies. I seem to have good nights and bad nights. I had a MLST test back in 2000 in which I did poor, which indicated possible narcolepsy. That showed some evidence that CPAP doesn't eradicate my EDS. As a result, I stopped using it for about seven years which was a mistake. However since I started back using it this past July, it does help me sleep better and I don't have as many dreams about suffocating. My EDS feels like it may have improved, but not to the point where I'm alert as a person without any sleep disorder. For example, reading and going to meetings is still a challenge to me. I don't fall to sleep as much watching televsion, however my concentration isn't where it used to be. Strange, but for the last few nights, I woke up several times suffocatiing and almost breaking my mask trying to get it off in time. That really startles me. Perhaps it's the fall season and my allergies are acting up. One way or another, if it happens again, I'm calling my doctor to discuss further surgery options.
