First night with a CPAP

Posted by TheMonTSteR on October 02, 2007 at 06:49:25:

Man, am I ever upset.

At the sleep study center, I slept like a baby when they tested me with the CPAP. They gave me a nasal mask, and after a brief adjustment, I was very comfortable. No apneas. It was like a dream come true.

Yesterday, I got my CPAP, but it came with a full face mask. I was concerned, but figured the doctor knew what he was doing when he prescribed it. I slept far worse last night with the CPAP than without. Needless to say, I am enormously frustrated. I had apneas when sleeping on my back with the CPAP, something that didn't happen one time at the sleep center.

I'm thinking that the prescribed pressure is not sufficient for the full face mask. Considering that I slept better and felt more comfortable with the nasal mask, my instinct is to switch to that one.

I know it's only the first night, and everything I've read says, "Be patient, you'll adjust, etc. etc." But given that my experience at the sleep center was so much better than my experience in the comfort of my own home (without all the ridiculous wires and such), it seems to me that something is badly awry.

I welcome any advice, input, thoughts, etc.
