Yes, anesthesia for surgery is dangerous for apnea sufferers. Be sure to tell your doctors you are on CPAP for sleep apnea and take your machine with you to the hospital. My sister is a surgical nurse at a hospital that lost an apnea patient some years ago and since then, the hospital won't admit the patient unless he has complied with their instructions to bring the CPAP along for use in the recovery room.

Some apnea sufferers wear a medic alert bracelet or tag that states something like, "Sleep apnea; must have continuous positive air pressure if unconscious or sedated."
