I'm shaking my head over your comments; I think that's quite an amazing read of an article that doesn't appear to say anything about CAUSES of sleep deprivation, only the EFFECTS of sleep deprivation. I can't even find a reference to sleep apnea.

And your comments that diet and exercise "can lessen the severity of sleep apnea" does not seem to be the experience of many who have posted on this board saying they have never been obese and have exercised regularly, yet have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. I'm happy that your dietary changes have been beneficial for you -- and they may, in fact, be helpful for many people -- but I would tend to believe that the reason such a drastic change in diet might be helpful is due to the probable weight loss following the elimination of these food groups rather than anything intrinsically offending in the foods themselves.

It may be that sleep apnea has been more frequently diagnosed in truck drivers than in the general population simply because truck drivers are more aware of their own problems with sleep and more likely to seek treatment in order to be in compliance with Federal regulations. One must be wary of a too-facile linking of cause and effect.
