I believe I have a similar problem with "mixed" or "complex" apneas. After ten days on CPAP the Sleep Lab reviewed my SmartCard and told me I am still having 15+ RDIs per hour. They have increased my pressure to 18 cm to try and get the RDIs down. My wife said my breathing still stops when I'm on the CPAP machine. I asked her if I was trying to breath and gasping for breath, or if it appears that I am not even trying to breath. She replied that it appears I make no effort to breath. So I'm wondering if this is a case of central apneas being triggered by the CPAP therapy. Evidently CSA or complex sleep apnea is only diagnosed AFTER the patient has been on CPAP therapy. You should report your concern to your sleep lab doctor and ask if its appropriate to be retested for CSA (mixture of OSA and central apneas).
