Untreated sleep apnea can lead to bankruptcy from medical bills or a shortened life span. Not a good way to go...not treating the problem.

Depending on what state you live in, you may be eligible for group medical insurance, plans funded through the state. Open the yellow pages and get a number for a health insurance broker in your area. Call them and ask what's available. These are the people who know about the options. The reluctance to go somewhere and sleep for a night (a sleep lab) is also going to be a big problem for you. I would encourage you to try to get over it.

CPAP works to cover up sleep apnea and make your body sleep better, but the best alternative to the whole situation is to completely reform what you eat on a daily basis and start getting regular exercise. Doing these things can cure apnea. Period. No need for CPAP. Not mentioned here on this forum too often, but it's the truth. People have changed their diets and lifestyles and gotten over sleep apnea. You start out be eliminating beef, all dairy products, and wheat and foods made with wheat flour. Adopt a diet that is based on vegetables and fruits. Stop the cow's milk and switch over to soy milk. Take multi-vitamins everyday. Stop eating any big pieces of meat. Only small chuncks of chicken or small bits of bacon (just for flavoring) mixed with vegetables. Can eat somewhat bigger portions of baked fish. No breads anymore. The burger, fries, and coke is history if you'd like to kick apnea.

If you're interested in hearing more about this kind of diet, indicate so and I can post more about it.
