My friend, I read into what you're asking...I think it is a question of how a person works around the normal channels to get a CPAP machine, because you maybe have heard that these things treat sleep apnea, and also, you don't have insurance and can't go somewhere else and sleep to confirm the problem? Also low on cash now. Of course, you run into the problem that most doctors will only write for a machine if they have a sleep study in front of them that indicates apnea. There could be mal-practice issues if they don't follow that protocol.
Question back to you: how do you know you have sleep apnea, and if you do, what setting on a CPAP machine would treat the apnea? If you could by-pass all the medical legal stuff and get the money to buy a machine, these would still be open questions. When you talk home monitors, yes, there home testing monitors out there, but they are far less accurate than lab equipment. They may or may not include oximetery, which is an important factor in diagnosing sleep apnea severity. It would seem complex to get one of these if you don't or can't go though the normal channels and take the propere steps.
Your only hope would be to check the Saturday newspaper every week for estate sales, assuming you live in a larger city. Go to every sale and ask if the person who died had a auto-adjusting CPAP machine and offer to buy it for cash. You might have to hit 50 or 100 sales, but maybe you could find one. Take the machine home and see if it helps you sleep. This advice is so bad that I shake a bit thinking I just gave it out.
