Posted by FrustratedInOttawa on December 20, 2007 at 12:24:09:Just wondering, if others have had a similar experience with a defective CPAP machine and if they can provide advice.
I purchased a new P&F CPAP machine a year ago and after considerable frustration and suffering realized that the CPAP machine must be defective.
As most of you can relate, the problem with having sleep apnea is that it becomes difficult to distinguish between sleep apnea symptoms and other related symptoms. Because of this, I went through a year of extensive medical testing suspecting everything but my “NEW” CPAP machine, which included an MRI, CAT scan, new sleep apnea dental device, a sleep study and numerous visits to my gp, all with no success of relieving my sleep apnea symptoms or finding anything else wrong. Using my new CPAP machine, that I am able to adjust air pressure for, which by all accounts appeared to be working properly and was tested as producing the right air pressure, actually made my symptoms worse. I was losing my mind believing that I didn't have sleep apnea anymore, but was suffering from some other insane disease.
I finally decided to use my six year old CPAP machine for a couple of days and soon realized that my old CPAP machine was relieving me of my sleep apnea symptoms and that my new machine was obviously defective.
I brought the new CPAP machine, which has a three year warrantee, back to the distributor where I purchased it and asked that they send it back to the manufacture. I was amazed at the treatment I received. I’ve received better service from used car dealers. There was absolutely no concern what-so-ever about my health and I was told that “You know, that we take no responsibility and that you may have to pay up to $100.00 for the manufacturer to look at the CPAP machine.”
Now I’m afraid that I’ll get a broken machine back with a $100.00 charge for nothing done.
The good news provided by my CPAP Access Therapy distributor is that I can continue to use my old CPAP machine and buy a new one with insurance money after five years, and Merry Christmas to you too!
