My first day of CPAP...

Posted by TG on December 20, 2007 at 18:52:53:

Hi Guys,
Just got my CPAP (actually an APAP for a fortnight) yesterday, and am posting today after my first night on the machine.

Very interesting...

Getting to sleep took a little bit longer than usual, nothing unexpected though - I have the full mouth and nose mask. I drifted off but woke up shortly after finding my mouth dry - so I turned up the humidifier to 6 (out of 10). Went back to sleep. Woke up about 2am, feeling like I'd slept for a long time... mask had come off, and was blowing air on my face. Readjusted, and went back to sleep.
Woke up about 4, and then 6, readjusting the mask each time.
Got up about 7.30am, feeling like crap (same as before) - wasn't expecting a miracle, but thought I'd feel somewhat better - maybe it takes a while - I have heard the term Sleep Debt mentioned, maybe I gotta repay that first.

My wife said, apart from the muffling of the mouth, I was snoring just as much as usual, and stopping breathing every breath as I usually do...

I'm hoping I'll feel better soon...

Cheers,
Richard
