This is an interesting conclusion, but I wonder how it explains you keeping it closed when you are asleep.

You would not be aware then and this hardly explains it.
I also fail to understand how the noise would be different with the mouth colsed or open.
If the tongue seals the palate, then there would be no difference in the air flow or sound level.

I also have occasionw when my mouth is very dry, but not at others and I am not sure why this happens.
I guess I am mouth breathing at this time and the PAP is not providing air.
