1. No, the test will reveal the same thing.
2. You definately need CPAP. No question about it.
3. The PSG test has electrodes hooked up to your brain. It monitors brain waves. Don't worry, they know what stage of sleep you were in.
4. Even a small sample of sleep is enough for PSG tests. Establishing a baseline is important. It shows how often you are deprived of oxygen on an hourly basis while you sleep. With that info, they can assess what your risks are if you do not get treated.
5. Snoring is significant. Most people who snore heavily have some degree of sleep apnea. In your case, you know for sure that you have sleep apnea.

In my opinion, there are great advantages for you to persue CPAP treatment. I think you must do it.

Please read up on sleep apnea more. Check out the book "the Promise of Sleep". Author is William C. Dement. Available for free at your local public library. If you read the chapter on sleep apnea, you will see about the PSG tests, how sleep works and how CPAP works (e.g. what apnea does to your heart, and so on). You will also read that the even people with an AHI of five or more should seek treatment. I am sure that if you read that, it will put your mind at rest, and you will see the benefit in getting treatment.
