Posted by milron on February 11, 2008 at 10:12:06:I had a weird dream last night with my full face mask. I dreamed the mask was sliding down my face squeezing my nose making it hard to breathe. I then moved the mask upward, but it kept sliding up by itself blocking my nose making it hard to breathe again. In this dream, I was so disoriented that I couldn't figure out how to unsnap my mask; then the mask just wouldn't unsnap. I began rolling from side to side in my bed and I finally unsnapped the mask. Then I just sat there on the edge of the bed while my dog looked at me, but without paying me much attention, which was strange. Then I suddenly woke up lying flat on my back breathing normally through my mask as if I never moved a muscle. My dog was in bed beside me, sound to sleep. A MLST several years back did say I had severe hypersomnia, and the findings suggested narcelespy, however the narcelespy was never diagnosed. Anyway this may explain the weird dream that seemed so real last night. I haven't had a dream like that for a couple of years (thinking that I got out of bed and suddenly waking up in bed or taking a nap thinking that I got up and went to bed, but suddenly waking up still on the couch). Those kind of dreams really play on the mind because you become concerned about having one of them freddies nightmare experiences where you're not sure if you're awoke or dreaming. What concerns me right now is that this is the first kind of dream I've had like that which involved my cpap mask. That dream last night makes me feel like I could have suffocated. And even if I had a bed partner, she never would have noticed a thing. This is when I question the saftey of a full face mask, where my mouth is covered the whole time, disabling me to breathe out of it in case of an emergency. Last night I may have been lucky, I don't know. Has anyone ever had one of these near twilight zone experiences in their sleep such as mine while using a full face mask? Does anyone question the saftey of a full face mask after reading what I experienced last night? Does anybody know someone who experienced anything similar? Thanks.
