I doubt that there would be any risk of suffocation with full face mask. Believe me, for any kind of medical equipment to get approval from FDA or regulatory agencies of other nations, there has to be a lot of research. If anything had ever gone wrong with any other user, you would most definately have heard about it. As a case in point, you can see the scrutiny that toys coming from China are currently undergoing.
As for the mechanical aspect, there are valves held in place by the positive pressure. If the pressure dropped the valves would open. You would be able to breathe.
If you worry about it (which you shouldn't), you can set your machine to sound an alarm if there is a leak. You can also get beepers to sound if the electricity fails. Backup power via deep cell battery is also possible. This kind of system would be used on a patient who was on life support system. Of course, there is no need for CPAP users, but if it helps you to put your mind at ease and sleep better...maybe an idea.
Finally, your body will wake you if you cannot breathe. That is why we wake up (have arousals) with sleep apnea.
Dreams are complex. Usually you dream about something that you worry about. I think if you realize that your full face mask is safe, your nightmare will go away.
