CPAP can be so good at holding someone asleep that ANY odor or unfriendly gas in the bedroom area can cause trouble and hold the person asleep like a drug or ansthesia, and the body looses it's ability to wake its self from something that isn't good to breathe. Examples of odors or gasses can be things like paint fumes, cleaning solutions, or even smells from a CPAP hose that hasn't been cleaned in a while.
Always have fresh or moving air in a bedroom where CPAP is being used and avoid sleeping in rooms with noticable chemical odors.
