Your 'blind spot' experience sounds more like the aura of a migraine headache, which sometimes preceedes the pain. I think this is likely what happened to you. Take a look at migraine-aura /net or go to youtube / com and search on 'mirgaine aura' for additional information. I get these things about once/twice a year. I have never experienced any permanent vision loss from them.
