Negative effects of CPAP/ Diabetes

Posted by MrsBatista on March 12, 2008 at 19:42:50:

Ok, I have type 2 diabetes and I have a CPAP machine set on O2 level of 8 which seemed to help my apneas during my sleep studies, the problem is, is that I am diabetic and I'm having problems with the cpap. It has made my feet sore, sometimes my legs too, but the pain was so intense that I couldnt get my feet under me and would stumble and actually fell a few times.

Now, I don't want to knock the CPAP machine because I know it should be helping everyone who uses it but I'm just having a bad experience with it and was wanting to know if anyone else has had any bad experiences like this also? Are there any other diabetics out there with these types of problems when using the CPAP?
Also, when I stop breathing, I am wide awake when it happens, it completely wakes me up, instead of being partially awake, so that's another negative effect. I know alot of it has to do with my sinuses and the deviated septum which I'm sure I'll probably end up with surgery to correct all these nasal problems. So my main question is does anyone else have negative effects with the CPAP because they are specifically diabetic or have nasal problems? My doctors want to know if the sore feet thing is happening to other people so they can do investigations/studies to find out why and to inform future patients or clients that this may happen.

Thanks,
MrsBatista
