Posted by saabbe on April 02, 2008 at 18:29:26:I recently had a sleep study done and just received the results from my neurologist. She diagnosed me with mild to moderate sleep apnea.
I'm very confused by the findings from my polysomnogram report and really need someone to explain it all to me. I understand the terms somewhat, but not really what they mean on the spectrum of normal. My doctor said that she can't say what long term affect this will have on my health, but it is definitely the reason behind my sleepiness and fatigue. She didn't cover any of the specifics with me though and I was so shocked that I didn't ask. She has referred me to an ear, nose, and throat doc to determine if surgery is an option. She also suggested a dental device and really last was CPAP. I have a lot of anxiety which she also said could be linked to this. I thought she said that I woke up 22 times per hour, but is that really what this says? Can you help me understand the findings below and how this truly falls on the scale of diagnosing OSA?
Total time 502 minutes; total sleep time of 434 minutes.
1 obstructive apnea, 1 mixed apnea, and 29 hypopneas.
AHI - 4
129 flow limitation events
RERA index of 18
Total night RDI of 22
Oxygen sat ranged from 95-100%
Total arousal rate of 27 per hourThank you,
Jana
