Hello,

First thing is to relax you have learned something very positive for your health and this may prevent a stroke, heart attack, or accident and improve your life greatly. This is good news on many levels. It is much better than the physical byproducts of untreated sleep apnea. Relax, your life is going to get better now.

Second, if your doctor cannot explain the findings to your satisfaction find a doctor who can. I think after you do some reading on the subject you will be able to form much better questions. Write down your questions and schedule a follow up appointment with your doctor and ask your questions. You will only get answers specific to you from your doctor.

Third, are there things you can do to improve your sleep apnea like excercise, losing weight, or other things? Getting down to the correct weight in many cases solves the problem. Sleep apnea usually results in weight gain, it is an upward spspiral. Once you get your apnea under control you may be able to lose weight more easily.

Surgery would be a last resort for me, but you may have other feelings on the matter. I am treating my obstructive sleep apnea with exercise, weight loss and CPAP. With proper weight loss, and exercise I may eliminate my sleep apnea. Only follow up tests will determine this.

So my advice is to relax, learn, ask, and make changes in your life that will help correct your sleep apnea including CPAP.

Remember, learning you have the problem early is a blessing.

Later,
Rolling Thunder
