You did not say that money was a major problem in your case.
It is for many who could benefit from PAP, but simply do not have the money for a full study.
Some HMOo are going exclusively to home studies with an APAP to determine pressures and then prescribe one.
This cuts costs, but is still beyond the reach of many.
It is never a good idea for an uninformed person to attempt to diagnose and treat themselves, but sometimes some will do this if they have a source of credible information.

It is not diffucult to get a xPAP if you know where to look.
It is easy and the prices are amazingly affordable.
If you search enough, you can find other places that may help educate yourself better.
You are still on your own to be careful in treating yourself.
