Embarassed - Looking for Advice

Posted by drene on April 23, 2008 at 07:39:14:

Hi - I am a 34 year old male...and I think I have a sleep disorder. I am always tired. I quit smoking over a year ago and did not receive the extra energy kick everyone promised. I am not overweight - but am working on losing another 6-8 pounds I put on after quitting the cigarettes.

My issue is that I snore. At least thats what my wife tells me. It has gotten to the point where she is sleeping in another bed. There are no marriage problems or anything else, she just needs her rest too.

Sometimes she says I wake her up because I am screaming. I have recalled waking up severely frightened - but not sure what I was afraid of....and I have woken up screaming before...and have had no idea why.

The snoring happens pretty much every night (as I am told) and the waking up or screaming in my sleep happens about every 10 days or so....but it seems to be getting more frequent.

Anyway, this morning I woke up horrified - I had wet the bed. This happened to me about a year ago too. The first time I wrote it off as stress and a fluke thing - but now its happened again - I am really concerned. I am embarassed too.

When I went to the doctor he said tape a tennis ball to my back and lost 10 pounds. I'm 5'11 and 183 - I will be down to 175 soon enough - but a few extra pounds did not cause me to sleep through peeing in the bed.

I'd like to have more energy and have a wife that can sleep in the bed with me without having to listen to my snoring, screams or risk being peed on...(the sad part is I'm only half joking there...

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much!

- drene
