Does treat OSA treat constipation

Posted by Alamo Joe on May 08, 2008 at 10:30:18:

Some time ago a number of posters on sleepnet agreed that treating OSA also treated colitis (Diarrhea).

Autistic children frequently have bowel habit problems. The diarrhea I think I understand. The hammering of the bowels during an apnea (The diaphragm makes multiple attempts at increased effort to overcome the obstruction.) injures the intestines so that water is no longer absorbed from the waste.

Their constipation I do not understand. I think that perhaps the motility is affected more than water absorption and for this reason they become constipated.

Question: Has anyone found that treating OSA also treats chronic constipation?

On the other hand, does anyone have any other explanations?

Thanks a bunch
