They are moving in that direction. Check out the RESMED Vantage Auto-CPAP(S-8 series). It is about half the size of the Resmed S-7 series. It is not much larger than my hand. Very compact. Lightweight and ideal for travel. I had both S7 and S8. I would say that the S7 (former model) is just a little bit quieter, but only ever so slightly - difference is so minor you might not even notice unless you really concentrated and listened very closely. Both are very quiet. In my opinion, the small size and the way that the S8's reservoir is seemless and opens from the top is worth it. I recommend the S8.

Still maybe they will be able to make even smaller. I would imagine that at a certain point they will run into a limitation.
