Posted by daldei on July 11, 2008 at 06:22:39:Last night (2nd night on CPAP) I noticed something very very strange. Just as I was finally getting to sleep, I could feel my throat relax and start to close. Before CPAP I could feel this sometimes and actually hear myself start to snore as I hit niteytime (would wake me up sometimes, or sometimes not). Anyway this time same thing, but this time the CPAP air pushed through just as my throat was closing (working!). But what was weird was this, right at this point I could feel a somewhat pleasurable feeling of relaxation, then the air kicked in and it was taken away. It honestly felt like my body had been robbed of its enjoyment. It was very strange. It felt like I was being taunted with something I was addicted to (say chocolate, a beer, or cigarettes) and just as I was about to dig in; it was ripped away from me !
I know this sounds very strange, but that's how it felt.
It could also be that it just startled me and sent a blast of adrenalin.... who knows.
Makes me wonder if there is some component of Apnea that is psychological addiction (to a physiological syndrome). I'll probably never know :) but soon enough I hope to be addicted to CPAP. Maybe that's like swapping cigarettes with gum chewing.
