Noise Level

Posted by Cinba on July 15, 2008 at 10:46:50:

I've been using my Opus nasal pillow interface fairly successfully for about two weeks now. My problem is that I also have insomnia and am a light sleeper. It takes me an hour or longer to get to sleep (even with sleep aids) and I wake easily to the air pressure noise. During the last few nights I find myself turning the ramp down or turning the machine off altogether to start over at my lowest pressure. This happens about every 15 minutes until I get so disgusted I take the mask off. But I know how awful I'll feel if I do that. It's very frustrating because I've had some successful nights and have started to feel better. At least I know it's possible. Now I feel like I have another roadblock that I thought I had passed. I have an ocean noise maker to try to drown out some of the air pressue noise but when it's right in your face it's hard to ignore. My machine itself seems louder also. Ear plugs don't help. I actually changed masks this morning at 3:00 a.m. which seemed to help some but the Opus is easier for me to sleep with in many ways.

Do you have any suggestions? Do you just get used to it eventually? I have an evaluation and class on insomnia at the end of this week which may eventually help. But you know how it is when you finally start to feel better and that is taken away from you...it seems worse than before.

Thanks for listening.
