I think if you do a search on "tonsillectomy", you may turn up some posts from people who had some success in similar circumstances, i.e., large tonsils. If I remember correctly, the apnea was helped considerably.

Pure numbers are not as significant as your daytime fatigue and exhaustion. Drinking heavily 2-3 times a week doesn't help, either, though that's up to you. It is important that you do whatever necessary to improve your quality of life. Your doctor might prescribe an Ambien or two to take the night of your titration (second) sleep study so that you sleep better. Good luck to you.
