I had the same trouble, except I not only had rainout but the hose was physically thumping. I couldn't sleep through that.
The right humidity setting varies depending on both the person and the room environment. A lower setting might work well for you. I was stuck: if the setting was low then I was wheezing the next day, while higher settings caused the rainout and thumping. I tried wrapping a cloth around the hose and that helped some. I also learned that if I got up in the middle of the night to go the bathroom, then I drained the hose at the same time. That helped considerably. But my doctor said I shouldn't have to go through that, and prescribed a CPAP with a heated tube. It's wonderful; it's even quieter and I get no thumping. I do sometimes still get condensation on the mask itself, which isn't heated, but that's not bad. She said the insurance would not have approved the heated tube immediately, but it was approved once there was a demonstrated need.
