Wow a new forum, I had to change my favorites link :)

Just a quick followup on a new CPAP user. I have completed 3 weeks now on CPAP and its amazing what I've learned and what's changed.

Things I've Learned !

How to hack the ResMed S8 - I'm a computer geek and couldnt stand having a piece of electronics that blocks out the user. Its amazing how simple it is to "break in" to the clinical menu. No, I'm not changing settings, except where they screwed up and set the time wrong by 3 hours ...

Insulate the hose ! I got one of those "sock" things that goes over the hose. Boy what a difference that makes ! I am able to bump up the humidity settings by "2 clicks" and have no rainout. At first I was getting condensation and dripping cold water on my nose, Yuck ! now I'm not.

Eye Infections ... got a minor eye infection in both eyes that lasted a week. Dont know why, but probably from leaky mask blowing on my eyes. Tightened the straps and no more eye problems. Weird though.

EPR setting. Sweet. I was having a hard time exhaling when the presure ramped up ... got the Dr's approval to turn on "EPR" (Expitory Presure Relief). Love it. It drops the presure when you exhale so I dont feel so claustrophobic. Now I dont even notice the presure anymore !

Ramp setting ... set at 0 now, the presure doesnt bother me. I found I was "waiting" for the ramp setting to kick in when falling asleep so why bother. But I was glad I had it at first.

Sleep. I never really noticed I had sleep problems before. Unlike many with Apnea issues, I think I caught it early. I've had a few time where I woke up totally exausted worse then before, but mostly sleeping very well. Only took 2 nights to get it so I would use the cpap for 8 hours. I am also taking 1/2 an ambian but I hope to stop that soon, I just got tired of being extra exausted because I wasnt used to the mask.

Mask. Still have some problems with fitting the mask, but mostly OK. I've gotten so I dont much notice its on anymore. Still have problems with it leaking around my eyes if its not just right, but I avarage a .35m/l leak rate which the doc says is OK.

My next milestone is to travel ! I have a confrence in Montreal in Aug so ready to try out my CPAP in a hotel.

Thanks everyone for your support !
