This much movement could be due to REM Behavior Disorder RBD. During the dream state our body is paralyzed so we don't act out our dreams. With RBD we are not paralyzed and will act out what we are dreaming. He could have a dream of being attacked and strangling the attacker. This could show up as your husband strangling you.
Until you see a sleep specialist, soon, safety is the number one concern. Make sure there are no weapons or things that could cause damage in the house.
Before RBD was discovered, many patients tied themselves to their bed with a rope to keep from running into furniture, etc.
He should see a sleep specialist asap.
