Ask your doctor to restore the pressure. Explain to him that the peaks were caused by removing the mask while leaving the machine on which you will never, ever do again. Especially tell him that the lower pressure leaves you feeling suffocated. If a person feels suffocated, the natural tendency of the body is to remove the offending agent (e.g., the mask) while you are sleeping.
I don't know about the musty odor. Perhaps you should have your DME check the machine and make sure the filter is fresh and clean. Did you ask whether you received a brand new machine?
