I suspect that you might not have been propperly given a sleep study. If you would have been propperly given the sleep study, your doctor would have hard data showing whether or not your sleep apnea was being addressed by the CPAP device. He should have been able to say something to you like "you see this Steve, you were having 29 apneas per hour, but when we used the CPAP at 12 cms H20, you only had six per hour and you got much more deep sleep". They should be able to give you hard empirical data, not just depending on your feelings of daytime sleepiness (which is a subjective measure).
