There have been many definitions of hypopneas and I believe the latest definition says it must include an arousal along with a 4% decrease in O2 levels. The definition changes frequently, however, it is common for them to cause arousal's, awakenings, and/or a shift in sleep stage.

RDI is not a good indicator of severity. Severity is best determined by how it affects your daytime alertness and other problems like excessive work for the heart, etc.

It will take more than 18 days for inflammation and other side effects from surgery to subside to find out if your surgery was a success.

On the plus side surgery for hypopneas are typically easier to preform than surgery for full blown obstructions. However, a good surgeon can be very successful with either.
