StarCat, Taking this to an altogether different level, I didn't mention earlier that we recently installed a standby generator at our farm's service pole, with a sophisticated panel that detects an outage, and automatically starts it's (propane) engine. It's about a 15 sec. startup/changeover, however, I sofar have only observed its test runs of about 12 minutes, once a week. In actual use, when power comes back on the service line, it stops on its own. The reason I hesitate to suggest that, is that I could have bought a small, new car for the same money. Also there is periodic service and maintenance cost. We have been subjected to week-long ice storm outages a couple of times; also windstorms, downed poles, etc.
Short of throwing a lot of money at your situation, I don't know what else you might do. Good Luck.
