Posted by sleepapnea2 on September 28, 2008 at 16:25:32:I was diagnosed with OSA in January and began using my CPAP on Feb. 8. I found that I had to heat the water for the humidifier because the humidifier did not work well (or not well enough for me) and caused my nasal passages to burn. The third week in March, I developed a cold for a few days then was fine until the second day of feeling well. I woke up that morning with a very congested upper nasal passage. Every night since, I go to sleep with at least one nasal passage completely blocked and the other passage may be partially blocked. I use a nasal pillow for a mask so it is really difficult to breathe well with congestion in one or both passages.
I have talked to my sleep specialist who had me try Rhinocort Aqua, then added Allegra, then Astelin. After two months using the meds, I quit taking them as they did not work for what he said were allergies. During my last appointment, he strongly suggested that I see an ENT. The ENT said "Amuse me and take Mucinex-D and Nasonex". Mucinex-D works well and the pseudoepinephrine does a great job except you must take it 12 hours prior to your bedtime if you want to sleep at night (have insomnia right now). The jury is out on Nasonex because it can take up to 2 weeks to work. I have been taking it for 8 days.
I did read an old post that mentioned that when someone writes regarding allergy symptoms, they are told to purchase a heated tube from Australia. If anyone has the information, I would really appreciate a reply so that I may order the tubing if it will help me.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please pass them on. I have yet to feel rested upon waking (and everything else that CPAP is supposed to do for you) and not sure what to do about it. In addition, my blood pressure seems to be running consistently high when it used to be normal and am having headaches again. I have no idea if these developments are due to my CPAP not working for me, chronic insomnia, medication side effect, or maybe all of it combined. APOLOGIES, got off subject.
Yes... I am desperate and becoming concerned.
