I don't know if this will help, but I have terrible allergies and I've experienced some similar problems. The only humidifier I've had success with is a Fisher Paykel. Nothing else seems to heat the water sufficiently. I turn my humidifier on in the evening at least 30 minutes prior to bedtime (long enough to heat the water). If I put on my mask and lie down immediately, my sinuses close up. If I start out with my mask on sitting up (I usually read for about 15 minutes), then I am able to lie down and my sinuses stay open.
I've also recently switched to Patanase (it's the nasal spray version of the Patanol eye drops). It's the first thing I've tried that really seems to work for me (I haven't had any luck with the steroid-based sprays).
Good luck!
