PETA's "got autism" advertisement

While the PETA ad about cow’s milk and autism is irritating, in my opinion, cow’s milk can adversely affect autism in two different ways.

The first is in the method of delivery, by bottle. Breast feeding advocates list various ailments risked by bottle feeding, colitis, reflux, ear infections and enuresis. Another paper concluded that ‘early weaning’ is a factor in ‘infantile autism’ while still another paper presents the case for bottle feeding and ‘pacifiers’ as risks for sleep problems. The point is “it is the method of delivery not what is delivered which makes the difference’ (Not original with me.)

In bottle feeding the child uses different muscles from those used while breast feeding and it is this difference in forces which alters the shape of the skull to one which predisposes the child to sleep problems. (The flexibility of the skull, so useful at birth, allows the difference in breast and bottle feeding forces to reshape the skull.)

Number two requires an understanding of sleep apnea. The sleep problem due to bottle feeding is a predisposition to sleep apnea. Sounds weird, but Internet anecdotal reports state that treating sleep apnea has treated colitis, reflux and irritable bowel syndrome. The allergy to milk casein and gluten can be a factor in sleep apnea. In sleep apnea sometimes there is a partial obstruction of the airway and at other times the airway can be completely obstructed.

In order to avoid either partial or complete obstruction, the respiratory drive must be sufficient to overcome airway resistance and the tendency of the airway to collapse. Opiates caused by incomplete digestion enter the blood stream and cause the muscles which keep the airway open to relax. Thus an allergy to casein (or gluten) can cause an increase in the severity of sleep apnea which underlies ear infections, reflux, enuresis and colitis. Oxygen deprivation causes injury to the brain.

In those predisposed to sleep apnea, the MMR vaccine can trigger sleep apnea.

Obviously the above doesn’t cover everything in autism. Some more is covered at:

Of course, to prevent spoilage, the formula filled bottles are stored in a refrigerator.

Best to all
