Severity of OSA doesn't always correlate with RDI. The best indication of severity is how it effects you daytime sleepiness, O2 desaturation, and changes in heart rate.

From what you describe here I would call it severe obstructive sleep apnea. You should definitely try CPAP. It will only get worse with age and the long term consequences of OSA are not something you want to be OK with.
