Is CPAP setting too high ?

I'm new to using my c-pap machine. It is set to ramp up from 4 to 8 within 20 minutes. 8 is the setting that was determined from the sleep study I did at the hospital. If I fall asleep with it on I am awake again in a short amount of time feeling a heavy soreness in my chest and it is difficult to take a deep breath. I feel like I am drowning in too much air. I didn't stay asleep in the hospital either, and felt the same way. Is it possible that they got the number wrong, or is this a common side effect for new users of c-pap?
