Posted by Jim from NM on February 02, 2009 at 10:43:21:I was diagnosed with sleep apnea back in 1999. I have been using a CPAP nightly since. My second machine is on it's last legs, and during my appointment with my ENT specialist, I asked, as I always do, if there's new hope to trash the cursed machine and have some sort of surgery to get rid of sleep apnea. He noted that my tonsils are "the biggest he's ever seen". And this is from a ENT, who's seen a lot of tonsils! I asked if I can just have them removed and will my sleep apnea go away. He couldn't answer for sure. I should point out that I'm not overweight, and also, I had my spleen removed due to a car accident 20 years ago. I always understood that I shouldn't removed my tonsils if I've had a splenectomy in the past. He said that tonsils do nothing.
So: has anybody had success with just removing the tonsils and eliminating sleep apnea? If I still have to use CPAP, even at a lower setting, there is no point to going through a surgery.
