I'm sorry, but I simply don't buy this. I've been on CPAP treatment for more than six years, so I'm not new to this therapy. I think that SleepyTimeGal was on the right track in her reply. It sounds like a possible pulmonary problem, or even a cardiac problem, but it doesn't sound likely to have been caused by a leaky hose or a wrong pressure setting on a CPAP machine. It seems to me that nearly any health problem reported here ends up with the suggestion "try a heated humidifier," or "check the hose." I wish someone from the medical community would chime in on this and share their insight. This is very possibly serious business. Without knowing this individual's complete health history, advising him to check his CPAP equipment may well be sending him on a dangerous wild goose chase. Does he have COPD? Is he a smoker? How's his weight? Even lung cancer could cause shortness of breath. Fact is, I can struggle through the night without my CPAP machine, and I'll feel rotten the next day, but my breathing isn't going to be affected. I just find this kind of amateur advice dangerous and possibly something that will delay appropriate treatment and diagnosis. Naybe Sandman could offer his thoughts?
