I had hoped to lose a few pounds after I started CPAP therapy about six or seven years ago, but actually gained about five pounds. Rightly or wrongly, I attribute that to the fact that I no longer burn calories rolling and tossing all night long. With CPAP, I tend to sleep quietly with no tossing or turning.

I now weigh about 215, but I had apnea when I was in my 40's and a very fit 180 and six feet tall. Unfortunately, I procrastinated and didn't actually start CPAP until I was in my mid 50's and over 200 pounds. I don't think my apnea is a product of weight, but simply a result of my physiology in the neck and throat areas.

My sister, on the other hand, lost about 40 pounds and no longer has apnea symptoms. I guess each person has to see how it works out for them.
