Posted by cydful on February 26, 2009 at 17:41:27:Hello; I am new to this forum but I have read some posts off & on. I am 'in between' a diagnosis. In 2001, my neurologist diagnosed me with narcolepsy. After trying several different medications and altering my work environment, I stopped going to see him sometime around 2004. On the medications I just felt like I was crashing all the time, so I really didn't believe the diagnosis. Recently, I started going to my primary Dr. again due to many different issues ranging from abruptly acquiring high blood pressure, feeling extremely weak in my legs & arms, joints aching non stop, of course being tired constantly-but most importantly I was experiences strange episodes of losing vision in my right eye, then shortly after my vision would return I would lose control of my left arm. This happened many times, sometimes in a different order or scenerio; sometimes I would just lose the vision, or it would just be loss of control over my arm. It was really strange. So after my pcp did numerous tests, and having to take a lot of time off work; he finally referred me to a sleep specialist. I had my first appointment yesterday, and after going over my long history and all the Dr. reports, they are thinking more along the lines of sleep apnea. I asked them about my vision & arm, they stated that it is totally separate from a sleep disorder but it could possibly be warning signs of an impending stroke; which they also said if I have sleep apnea I could be at higher risk of having a stroke. So, they want to do another sleep study plus MSLT to see if I have sleep apnea. AFter explaining to my Dr. that my work was giving me a hard time about how much time off I have been taking and I had to fight just to get that day off to see them, the Dr. suggested I request an intermittant FMLA; which I did this morning at approximately 10:30am or so and was then fired at 3:30pm. Of course they couldn't say they were firing me for requesting the FMLA or because of my medical issues, so they came up with things from way back when, relating to my job duties, performance, and not following protocols. I have never ever been warned in any way about my job performance, a couple of the things they stated I was 'verbally' warned about was actually things we had discussed and decided to change, which were protocols in our office-it was all twisted truths. Has anyone else ever came up against this? I am just totally devastated. My family and I were barely getting by with our income, and truthfully there isn't anywhere else I can go making the amount of money I was making. I just really don't know what to do or where to turn. Any type of suggestion or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
