Starting out on a new machine and between that and my insomnia, I feel it's almost impossible to get to sleep. I'm on Ambien and that's the only thing that helps me drop off for a few hours. When I take the mask off, I can generally fall asleep easier. It's so unnatural and foreign to try to sleep with something that feels like a lunchbox on my face, married to a machine the rest of my life to sleep. I get pressure sores around my nose from it and intermittent leaks. But when I take it off, the apnea wakes me again and again. Either way I feel like I'm screwed. I'm so sick of having to live with this condition as well as anxious and worried that this machine will not help. How does one ever adapt to leaving the mask on all night. The respiratory therapist said to leave it on a few hours at first, which is what I'm doing. But I get woken up with apnea sometimes if not on the machine. I wouldn't care if I could tolerate it and it worked.
