I know how you feel. It is frustrating. You are in a dilemma, but the best choice is CPAP even though it is not fun to wear it.
Listen, you have to make the best of it. You have to make your peace with this thing. As you said, if you don't wear it, you cannot sleep. That is not good. That will take its toll on you over time. You have to think about your waking hours too. You need to be strong and alert to enjoy life.
I know it doesn't seem natural to you, but if you really think about it, you will see that the machine is a very very beautiful thing. To realize what I am talking about, one thing that you might do is read the book titled "the Promise of Sleep". In that book the author tells about what life was like before CPAP. In those days (as recently as the 1970s and early 80s), they used to have to cut a breathing hole in people throats. This operation is called a Traecheotomy. It would totally disfigure people and it made ordinary things impossible (e.g. taking a shower, walking on a rainy day, going to the beach, cleaning your house with ordinary cleaning products). CPAP changed all that. It reversed sleep apnea and allowed people to get their strength back, start exercising again. It worked synergistically. If you think about that, you will learn to love it. Every night, I turn to my machine and say "I love you".
About the sores, you can just loosen the straps a bit. They should not be tight.
There is one other possibility: MMA surgery. MMA surgery involves cutting the jawbones and pulling them forward. It is a complex surgery which requires time in braces before and after, plus having yoru jaws wired shut for about 2 months. If you are lucky, it is possible that you can get a similar result from MMA surgery as from CPAP. According to the most recent info, 43% of people are cured by MMA surgery. 57% are not. In that case, you may well end up back on CPAP.
Best of luck.
