You sound completely overwhelmed, and understandably so, since you're dealing with all these things in a state of exhaustion. Unfortunately, uncaring doctors and dismissive equipment suppliers seem to be the norm these days. Will your DME allow you to apply rental to eventual purchase? Does your state have anything like Medi-cal to help low income people with medical equipment? Have you checked with your local hospital to see if there are any charities to assist with a one-time medical purchase? Have you contacted the AWAKE organization to see if anyone has an unused CPAP they might donate (presuming such a thing is legal. How about Women's Missionary Societies of local churches? There might be some willing to each contribute $100 toward the purchase. When I was Pres of such a society, we received various requests for help from non-members in the community. Do you have a local Salvation Army church? Are you part of any peer group or support group? They can be very helpful in identifying resources.

File a complaint with your state Insurance Commissioner. Write your representatives. Health reform is very much an issue now and squeaky wheels get attention.

Good luck to you. There are answers.
