Taking a break

I have been on CPAP for a year now, have never gotten used to clamping a foreign object on my face every night however my motto is, "it keeps me awake but it keeps me alive". I still dread going to bed every night and have never made friends with the mask. I accidently fell asleep last night. Normally I get into bed and put it on immediately and lie awake for 1 - 3 hrs waiting for sleep, and then get about 4 hours which is fragmented. I rarely feel good the next day mainly because I have multiple sleep disorders so the machine doesn't help the other ones. Last night I just wanted to lie for a while before putting on the mask. I woke up 5 hours later and was horrified to note that I wasn't on the machine, I searched for the mask in the dark, couldn't find it and immediately fell asleep again. I didn't wake up again for another 4 hours. I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop today but incredibly I still feel ok (for a change)although I feel guilty, like I "fell off the wagon" but I am tempted to let it happen again as this has not happened to me as far back as I can remember. My question is for the people who have longer experience with this disorder, can it hurt to take a break now and again?
