RERA - Respiratory Effort Response Arousal

It means your body makes an effort to wake up because you are having difficulty breathing, but you already know that you have difficulty breathing. It's significant to the extent that the arousals disrupt your sleep and contribute to daytime sleepiness.

I'm not sure anyone here is qualified to respond to your special circumstances. We are all laymen. I think only a doctor specializing in sleep disorders would be able to answer your questions or tell you why a CPAP would not be a good idea in your case. I think if a doctor prescribes CPAP for any reason, you can purchase one, but that's not saying insurance will cover it. In your case, if your doctor will prescribe CPAP, let me put in a plug for an auto-adjusting PAP.

My heart goes out to you and I wish you all the best.
