The concept of paying off 'sleep debt' is probably valid, but I can't see it going on for 9 months. Better than that, look into enhansing your sleep hygiene. You can google 'sleep hygiene' to read how the world defines it, but in a nutshell, sleep hygiene is all the daily practices that lend to better sleep each and every night. Things like not eating meals or hi calorie foods close to bedtime are a biggie sleep hygiene item. Remember, if you have OSA and are being treated with PAP, this doesn't mean you can ignore good sleep hygiene.

Another google is "Why we sleep - Time". This will lead to a link to an article by Time Magazine discussing why we need sleep. And no, it's not to rest our weary bones, it's more for our brains to sort out and refresh our memories. Without this process, our ability to learn suffers. This brings up the subject of brain tired vs. body tired, which needs to be discussed more.
