Insomnia is not a disorder it is a complaint and finding the cause is the goal. Idiopathic insomnia is like saying, "we give up on finding the cause". I known many cases where the patient complained of insomnia, nothing else, and their only problem was sleep apnea. Hypertension is a side effect of sleep apnea.
I believe with some people the body will fight sleep to avoid dealing with sleep apnea.
Having said that there are other causes of hypertension that should be checked.
Was the diagnosis of idiopathic insomnia made at an accredited sleep lab? Our sleep can change a lot in 6 years, so if you were not showing clinical signs of apnea in 2003, they could be there now.
I recommend talking to a sleep specialist in your area.
Best wishes,
