I've been in the same boat for quite some time now. The cpap helped but not nearly enough. I'm fairly sure its not sleep debt or poor sleep habits in my own case.

I'm increasingly convinced that I still have breathing related issues.

My machine gives me an AHI value (or its version). When the score is really low, I feel mostly better. How I feel is definitely linked to AHI value the machines reports. My doctor is beginning to thinking I have UARS. So the CPAP gets most of apnea's and hyponeas but there's still enough restriction to prevent me to getting into deeper levels of sleep for any length of time. Sleep studies have confirmed that I'm not getting effective sleep, but not exactly why.

There seems to be a common misconception that if we're compliant, CPAP will work. I've come to believe that's probably true for the majority, but there certainly seems to be a portion of us where that isn't true.

They are going to send me back for yet another sleep study, this time trying bipap (I think this will be the 5th sleep study). I can't say I'm very hopefully. If it fails, I'll be looking surgical options.
