Good for you for insisting on your CPAP. I have had very miserable results from both Air Canada and American Airlines. On a couple of occasions I was denied CPAP by those carriers. I used to live in Tokyo. It was very hard on me not to be able to sleep. My apnea was severe, so sleeping without it was not an option. This meant that I was not able to sleep for about a day and a half. What the airlines need to consider is that a CPAP user's travels don't start or end in airports. Your last sleep before boarding is often many hours before he arrives at an airport, and his next sleep is many hours after your completes his transcontenental flight 18 hrs that he can't sleep in the plane. Then the poor fellow has to clear customs, wait for ground transportation, arrive at other destination - for some, that means checking into a hotel). On top of all that, there could be connecting flights.
Personally, I feel that we should all make a stand for the rights of CPAP users to fly. Secondly, I am going to make a point of patronizing carriers that are CPAP friendly. I invite you all to do the same. What you just told me about Cathay Pacific has got my attention. It has made a positive impression on me. I will be giving serious consideration to that airline in the future. I will reward them with my business.
Thanks for the post.
